What is FEES?

Fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallow (FEES) is a high quality, comprehensive instrumental dysphagia assessment. Columbia Valley Swallowing Diagnostics uses portable imaging technology that allows objective assessments to be completed wherever is most convenient for the patient.

During the procedure, a flexible endoscope is introduced through the floor of the nose, into the throat where the speech language pathologist (SLP) can view the structures. The patient is then given food and liquids to swallow to assess sensory and motor function of the swallow.

How does it work?

After establishing a service agreement, a licensed speech language pathologist (SLP) will come to you to complete a FEES study. The same day you will have a detailed report, including color images, with objective measures and individualized treatment recommendations.

SLPs have been trained to diagnose and treat dysphagia, but do not have x-ray vision. We bring a GOLD STANDARD in swallowing diagnostics, and are here to help your SLPs make appropriate recommendations for your residents. All while costing significantly less than a similar procedure at a hospital.
